Atopic dermatitis, also called atopic eczema, is common in infants and children.<\/strong> This is a very unpleasant process for both the baby and the parent. It is often the cause of many additional worries and negative emotions.<\/p>

Then comes the question \"What to do with atopic dermatitis in babies?\". In order to answer this question, it is appropriate to familiarize ourselves with the disease, the causes of its occurrence, as well as which symptoms to watch out for.<\/p>

What is atopic dermatitis?<\/strong><\/h2>

Atopic dermatitis is more common in infants and children, but it is also seen in adults. He represents chronic, inflammatory and non-infectious disease<\/strong>, which affects the skin on the face and body.<\/p>

In atopic dermatitis, the skin becomes red, dry, itchy and may start to peel. The process is associated with unpleasant symptoms that have a negative impact on the child.<\/p>

From a medical point of view, atopic dermatitis is linked to several processes in the body:<\/strong><\/p>

\u2013 Decreased amount or lack of water and lipids in the skin, manifesting in dryness<\/p>

\u2013 Reduced protective function of the skin and permeable outer layer<\/p>

- Increased reactions of the immune system, due to the passage of allergens<\/p>

\u2013 Skin inflammation<\/p>

Phases in atopic dermatitis<\/strong><\/h2>

Atopic dermatitis can be divided into two main phases \u2013 exacerbation (acute phase) and remission (non-acute phase). We will discuss each phase in detail in the following paragraphs.<\/p>

Exacerbation (acute phase)
<\/strong>The acute phase is directly related to skin inflammation. Plaques, redness, burning, peeling and itching appear.<\/strong> At this point, it is important for the child to control their instincts to scratch, as injury to the plaques may follow. The more they are injured, the more itchiness and the risk of bacterial infection increases.<\/p>

Remission (acute phase)
<\/strong>The acute and non-acute phases alternate. After the initial \"attack\" a remission occurs. During remission, symptoms are less pronounced, but still present micro inflammation and itching. <\/strong><\/p>

<\/b>While adults can express precisely and clearly what bothers them and makes them feel uncomfortable, with children and babies things are quite different.<\/span><\/p>

With babies, it is important to be able to recognize the symptoms of atopic dermatitis in the earliest stage<\/strong>, so that we can take the necessary measures. The earlier we detect the disease, the more unpleasant it will be for the baby and for us.<\/p>

What should we watch out for?
<\/b>As mentioned above, the most common symptoms of atopic eczema are dry skin, itching and scaling. These symptoms <\/span>can appear on the skin, regardless of the area of the body.<\/strong><\/p>

You might notice pink or red plaques on the surface of the skin<\/strong>, as well as dry, flaky skin. Often these symptoms will also affect the way the baby behaves. You will notice that it is more restless or tossing and turning during the day or when it is time to sleep. May scratch and cry excessively.<\/p>

Plaques appear most often first on the cheeks in infants around 3 months<\/strong>. Then they begin to spread to other parts of the body - hands, feet, scalp. In babies of around 12 months of age,<\/strong> plaques can also be seen on body folds.<\/p>
